Canaries Cruise diary – November 2025
Featuring Phil, Gaby, Skylar & Leo, Chris, Ali, Clare and the two of us.
Saturday 22nd November
Travel day, jet2 flight from Gatwick South to Tenerife.
Boarded the P&O Azure mid afternoon. Had been warned that Nora Virus was on the ship.
More or less straight into the rooms, bit of a wander round.
Very average meal at the main restaurant. Because of Nora things were quite different at the buffet sections, no helping yourself and lots of handwashing.
Sunday 23rd
At sea, very average breakfast at the restaurant.
Bit of a play with the grandchildren plus a go in the jacuzzi.
Gala evening so dressed up for dinner, which was very good. Watched the comedian who was amusing.
Monday 24th
Funchal Madeira
Off the ship around 10am, straight to the cable car via the shuttle bus. Bit of a queue which went down quite quickly, quite a smooth ride although Gilly wasn’t keen. Very nice at the top and we waited for Phil & Gaby. Had a coffee in a cafe close by which was teeming with small lizards! Lovely location.
As Phil were getting the cable car back down we walked to the palace to join the queue for the Monte Sleds, this was a long wait, probably an hour. Myself, Gill and Clare shared a sled which was fun.
Then a taxi back down to the town, where we wandered and shopped for a bit, even found a Zara for the girls. Wandered through the Old Town and then back to the ship via taxi, which was slightly cheaper than the cruise shuttle.
Myself and Gill were baby sitting so went down for an early dinner which was okay, perfectly timed for Phil & Gaby who were eating at the Epicurean.
Tuesday 25th
Day at sea
Lots of play with the kids today which was real fun.
Gala night tonight, very good meal and service at the peninsular. Gilly very very tired so we skipped the evening entertainment.
Wednesday 26th
Fuerteventura
Went for a walk round the port town, nothing special, got stuck in the shopping centre as it was pouring with rain.
Back on ship, played Phil at darts, both pretty rubbish but there was only one winner which was me!
Gilly not feeling great and potentially going to duck out of dinner at the epicurean which is a shame. Hopefully it’s not the Nora Virus.
As Gilly wasn’t feeling great we offered both of our places at Epi to Phil & Gaby, Gilly stayed in the cabin and I babysat.
Sat in and watched the champions league on the TV, Skylar came in as well and we had a lovely chat and read a story, she was then happy to go to bed.
Thursday 27th
La Palma
Santa Cruz
Nice to revisit this picturesque port, lovely marine balconies and cobbled streets.
Spotted local ‘farton’ cakes which was amusing ordering these.
Back on the boat, Gilly went to rest and I played darts with Phil, score now 1-1! Then went for afternoon tea with the kids and met Wallace and Grommet.
Dinner at the usual, then rock band, trio of girls singing then dancing till 12:30!
Friday 28th
Santa Cruz – Tenerife
Early start as meeting Phil & Gaby at the Epicurean for breakfast, lovely breakfast with a pleasant ambience. Weather was good so we joined P&G for a play in the kiddies pool which was fun although clouded over fairly quickly.
Went for a stroll around the town but it wasn’t anything special.
Back on the ship it was catching up on some sun, then on for the darts finale. It was tense but after 1 all time was running out, so it was closest to bulleseye gets the championship which saw me take victory!
Catch up with P&G at the GlassHouse while they had their dinner, then off for ours.
Had a night cap then off to bed to finish packing.
Saturday 29th
Home day
Breakfast at the Epicurean which was good.
Few hours in the sun before the trip home and even a bit of table tennis!
Flight home a bit delayed.
A lot of time spent with Leo who was very wriggly!
