Friday 5th June

Just myself and Gilly for this week’s holiday in Alcudia.

This was an easyjet holiday with an 08:15 flight from Gatwick which meant an early start, flight was okay albeit a bit delayed but all good, at Palma it was very slow and it took an age for the baggage to come through, shared transport wasn’t great and a sigh of relief when the horror families got off.

Check in with the all inclusive Bordoy was good and we made it for lunch.

Unpacked and then went for a walk, quick recce of the Rapha pop-up and Mango for Gilly, nap and it was soon time for dinner, which was pretty good and even had sushi.

Saturday

Caught the bus into Palma which took just over an hour, actually a really nice place with lots of quaint streets plus the usual and of course Zara! I went off to the Pas store which was small but good, lovely walk.

An hour or so by the pool, very warm sunshine!

Dinner then 80-90s dj, hotel guy was very funny.

Cocktails went down a bit too easy!

Sunday

Caught the bus into the Old Town of Alcudia where they have a Sunday market, actually quite expensive tat, wandered around the old part of town which was pleasant.

Bus back which was very busy, in time for lunch back at the hotel. Afternoon by the pool, bit cloudy but the sun was very warm when it came out.

Dinner okay, evening entertainment consisted of connect4 and the abba sisters, one was enthusiastic and the other bored. Talked to the two girls afterwards and Gilly dropped into the conversation about Ben in Mama Mia!

Monday

Up for breakfast at 7:30, it was bike hire day! Had to wait ages but caught the bus into Porto Pollensa, it didn’t get going until around 10:30 and went straight for the Col de Fermenia, stopping for coffee at Lluc. Oddly a chap sitting close to the bikes was Tim Potter, had a chat, coffee and then down to Selva, Inca and through the marshes back to base.

Very very hot and definitely a lot quieter than April/May.

Pinarello was nice but I wouldn’t say special.

Karaoke night which was very cringe!

Tuesday

Bike day 2, out by 08:30 and headed straight for Petra, roads fairly quiet and it was getting warm, wind was going to pick up as well. Wasp gave me a nice sting and I returned the favour with a firm crush!

Google said 1.5 hours and I managed 1 hour, bit of a tailwind helped! Had coffee in Petra, but there was no cake and it was void of other cyclists. Headed to Inca via Sineu and the wind and heat was really picking up. From here it was the Battala climb which wasn’t too bad, but no personal records today.

Coffee at the garage and then headed back to Porto Pollensa to drop the bike off, head wind all the way back but still it was downhill most of the way. Stopped for a comfort break near Pollensa by a stream and the noise from what I think were frogs was very loud.

Back to the bike shop for 1:20 and it was siesta time, killed time with an ice cream.

Taxi back as I couldn’t face the bus.

Had the music up loud while getting ready, tap at the door but no one was there, I suspect it was next door complaining!

Music bingo was fun, the hotel entertainer was very good at his job.

Wednesday

Palma – Soller day

Up fairly early and on the bus to Palma, the main aim was going to Soller on the heritage train but we had to divert via Zara for a dress, we had limited time as the train was leaving Palma at 10:50 so we fast walked it to Zara, quick try-on, purchase and then fast walked back with 10 minutes to spare.

Really old electric train with open parts, our carriage at the front was a bit more enclosed but you could stand outside in between carriages. A German mother and daughter sat next to us and were very friendly and chatty.

The train ride for the last half was very scenic and an hour or so later we arrived at Soller where we mooched and sat for coffee. We then took the tram to the Port of Soller where we stopped for a tapas lunch in the marina, which was very pleasant.

Bus ride back to Palma, quick walk around then bus back to Alcudia and the hotel.

Probably 5 hours on public transport!

Dinner and then drinks, entertainment just okay and plenty of games of connect 4, Gilly wasn’t on form tonight with a 10-0 drubbing!

Thursday

Chill out day as it was our last full day of our holiday.

Walked to the beach and stopped for coffee, then a quick mooch around the shops, I visited the big hurletzer shop and came away with some new bib shorts.

Chilled out by the pool and then lunch.

Back down to the beach and had a swim, the water was crystal clear and teeming with fish.

Had some more time back at the hotel before returning for a 3rd time down at the Port where Gilly tried on a few dresses, we then strolled over to the marina where we stopped for a glass of wine and a beer. Returned to the hotel for dinner and a few rounds of connect4, very close this time and we had an early night as there was no entertainment.

Friday

Breakfast at the hotel and left for the airport around 08:35, no dramas just a long time at the airport!
