18th & 19th July 2020
Myself and Gilly and the two dogs went for a very short-break to the Forest of Dean, courtesy of a 1 night stay voucher from Ali & Chris.
Booked a nice hotel called The Speech House Hotel, which was an old hotel with a Verderers Court right in the heart of the forest.
Saturday 18th July: Left early in the morning and arrived at the hotel around 10:00am, the room wasn’t ready so went for a walk in the forest just across the road from the hotel, an absolute mecca for walkers and cyclists with trails everywhere. By the time we got back to the hotel after the walk we were still too early so jumped in the car to Symonds Yat West, however due to the flooding earlier in the year everything was closed down. So after this set-back we went to Ross on Wye which is a quaint town on the edge of the river, quick raid on the bakers shop and a walk along the river back to the car and back to the hotel. Checked into a nice family room which was perfect with the dogs, had a nap and jumped back in the car to the cycle centre just down the road, which was a very popular with mountain bikers and families, from here we went to Yat Rock which was an amazing view point almost looking down on the river Wye. Back at the hotel for a nice 3-course meal.
Sunday 19th July: Very full tummy after a cooked breakfast, a benefit of Covid:19 is that there is no buffet food and everything is al a carte! Checked out and headed straight back to Symonds Yat East which was an amazing bustling riverside village, went on the river tour which was fun, stopped for coffee, went for a walk and then hired a canoe which was also fun. Finished off with a roast dinner and headed home.
Definitely a place to visit and a great place for walking, canoeing, paddle boarding, mountain biking and road cycling. Very picturesque and very hilly!
Took the new insta360 camera with me, videos/pics coming soon!
