Thursday 24th April
With Ali & Chris.
Up at 2am for a 06:50 flight, lucky that we left early as the long stay car park was a nightmare where we had to wait a long time for a bus.
Arrived in Naples just after 10:40, cloud soon turned to rain which got heavy.
Had lunch which was very average, wander round the grounds which looked tired. Played uno then went for a quick walk.
Just okay buffet dinner then early night.
Friday 25th
Shuttle bus into Sorrento, mooched and meandered around lanes and shops, walk down to port to check out tickets for trip out to Capri.
Light lunch in fish restaurant which was good.
Bus back armed with lemonchelo.
Pre drinks with the lemonchelo and uno before dinner. Dinner was al a Carte but still mediocre.
Saturday 26th
Pope Francis’ funeral today in Rome.
Shuttle bus into Sorrento, perfect timing for ferry to Capri.
Uphill walk up loadsa steps to Capri centre, stopped for a well earned cafe stop.
Lots of walking and shopping, lovely place and mainly sunny. Very high end shops.
Ferry back, then some ice cream and back to the shuttle bus.
Limoncello before dinner. A lot of banter tonight, especially Gilly touching a waiter up!
Sunday 27th
Ali & Chris were going to Pompeii today as we’d already been several years ago, we were off to Positano instead. All of us headed to Sorrento on the shuttle bus as weirdly it was easier to get a bus to Positano from Sorrento rather than close to the hotel. Met a younger couple(both girls) who were also doing the same itinerary, bus out & bus back.
Waited ages for the bus and it was so busy we had to stand all the way, but it was a very scenic drive.
Positano was great, narrow steep streets filled with shops and a beach.
Had coffee there, meander and a light snack and a drink.
More shopping and boat trip back.
Met Ali & Chris in Sorrento and a quick ice cream before the bus back.
Al a Carte night and just alright.
Monday 28th April
Last day today and warm from the start, once checked out we decided to head down to Sorrento for a brief visit. Shuttle was full so walked to the bus stop and waited for the bus which took awhile, luckily we got on and had just over an hour to have a quick shop and a browse, I bought a new leather belt.
Back to the hotel for lunch which was by the pool and really nice, as they were cooking a lot of the food there.
Sun bathe and I had a dip in the very nippy pool.
Traffic was very heavy on the trip to the airport and the driver was typically Italian and impatient.
Overall weather was pretty good and only the odd shower, definitely got hotter as the time went by. What would be truly amazing would be to go back, hire a moped/scooter and drive more of the Amalfi Coast plus more time on Capri.
The hotel was to me a 3*, food was very average. Some staff okay others were a bit prickly and that weird waiter.
Shuttle bus was good apart from the last day when we couldn’t get one, local buses are nearly always full by the time they arrive close to the hotel. Taxis are very expensive.
