Sunday 9th October 2022:

You couldn’t make this up, after just getting over covid went out for a short spin on the road bike, roads were dry but on the S bend on the way to East Meon I must’ve hit a damp patch and in a nano second had hit the deck.

Very winded and struggled to get up, luckily some riders from Farnham came round the corner and stopped to help. They phoned Gill for me and she picked me up and took me to the QA, Phil from next door took my bike home.

6 hours at the QA and it was confirmed that I had broken my collar bone (in 2 places), broken ribs and a punctured lung. Arm in a sling for the next 6 weeks.

After being quiet at work that’s all I needed, guess what jobs started to flood in the next day!

Tuesday 25th October 2022:

Back from Malta yesterday (my lungs weren’t punctured) and had a consultation at the Fracture Clinic at the QA, no progress on the fracture and another review has been made for late November, a further 4 weeks. Personally I can’t see the bones meeting up very well, but going to make a conscious effort to wear the proper sling as I’ve neglected that a bit whilst on holiday. Ribs are still painful and can make sleeping a bit uncomfortable.

15th November:

Return visit to QA Fracture clinic, different doctor with a different opinion. Don’t wear the sling, carry on as normal except for lifting heavy weights, return visit in place for 4 weeks time to review. Might heal properly, Doc reckons it is knitting together although not the bone as yet. Will almost definitely end up with a nice lump.

Have now started running and one go on the turbo which didn’t feel great. Definitely a lot nice not wearing the sling and the ribs are getting less painful. Started driving although only short journeys at present.

Another check up and X-ray, doctor very up beat about it and said he could see growth between the two bones, not concerned about the step in the bones. Doesn’t want to see me now until April 2023. I’m able to do most things now and able to drive and even ride on the turbo trainer.
