Villa Loukia

May 2022

It’s astounding that we finally made it to Villa Loukia in Karavados in Kefalonia, having had many cancelled trips due to Covid in 2020. I’d come to an agreement with Danny/Audrey and Loukia that I would take loads of photos of the villa in exchange for a weeks stay at their amazing villa. I’d already created a new website for them and it became clear that they didn’t possess many photos of the villa to showcase this luxury villa. Audrey bless her was very keen on this when she was alive and we paid for our own flights. Audrey was an amazing women and her and Danny were my landlords for around 18 years at Campbell Park in Milland.

Diary;
Featuring myself, Gilly, Ali and Chri, Ben and Brendan.

Day 1 – Saturday 7th May 2022
Very early EasyJet flight out meant a 2:30am wake-up. Arrived in Kefalonia lunchtime. Picked up the hire car to travel to Villa Loukia and arrived at the villa for 1pm ish.
Popped out to Lidl for food.
Took a few room photos.
Pizza for dinner, knackered!

Day 2 – Sunday
Ben and Brendan sorted out a hire car and we had a convoy out to to Melassini Lake, lovely drive over the mountains. Boat trip on the lake, which is very unique being underground.
Drove from there to the beach resort of Antisamos were had lunch and a sunbathe on their loungers and parasol. BB hired paddle boards which I had a quick go on, the sea was a bit lumpy which made it tricky to stay upright, myself and BB also had a swim in the sea. I walked round to a cove to take some pictures with the drone.
Lovely beach and taverna.
Drive back again over the mountains to the villa.
Dinner in.

Day 3 – Monday
Early start to see the turtles at Argostili which hang around for fish at the harbour, a quick wander through the shops.
Drive to Myrtos beach which was a lovely cove with a cave. Quick swim with BB and sunbathe.
We then jumped in the car to go to Asos, although we missed the turn and were running out of diesel so decided to head to Fiscardo, lovely marina/harbour with lots of tavernas, we had a light lunch.
Drove back via Asos where I took some drone photos, very pretty cove with plenty of restaurants, the four of us stopped for a drink here as BB had stopped at a beach on the way.
Back to villa, quick change and off to see the sunset at the lighthouse.
Dinner in Argostili with BB.
Knackered

Day 4 – Tuesday
Ben and Brendan left mid-morning
Day by the pool
Lunch and dinner at the villa
More pics and drone footage of the villa

Day 5 – Wednesday
More pics of the villa until mid-day, trip out to Lourdes which wasn’t far from the villa, wander along the sea front.
Then drove onto Skala, google maps decided to take us off road which was very sketchy at times, luckily the Nissan Note made it unscathed.
We headed onto Skala, found a nice fish restaurant (Sunrise) by the sea, lovely tuna steaks and calamari.
Back by the pool, headed into Argostili for a light dinner.

Day 6 – Thursday
Argostili in the morning for shopping and coffee, light lunch by the waterfront.
Sunbathe back at the villa.
Walk down to Agios Thomas for a swim and a glass of wine, Agios Thomas is actually a really nice beach and only a 20 minute walk from the villa.
Ali and Chris made dinner at the villa.

Day 7 – Friday
Met Malcolm, Doug and Audrey’s brother.
Drove into Argostili for a quick mooch and a coffee, turtles very active.
Stopped on the way back at Amandakis Beach, although it was just big rocks with a bridge.
Back to the villa and then a quick swim at Agios Thomas, drink and then back to the villa.
Dinner at Denis which was nice, although I chose badly, Greek fish pie which was a bit dull.

Day 8 – Saturday
Home time, early evening flight meant a bit of time to kill, luckily we were able to stay at the villa as nobody was booked in.
Bit of reading and sunbathing, Gilly even went for a dip in the pool, even though it was a bit nippy!

Kefalonia is a lovely island, May is a good time to go as it’s the start of the season and feels very relaxed. As it was, the roads were quiet, tavernas and restaurants not too busy and the beaches generally quiet. Some of the beaches and towns are stunning and the island is quite mountainous making it interesting when out and about.
Villa Loukia is a delight and a real family home, it’s got a classical/chic style to it and each room has it’s own character. We stayed in the Savvas room which opened up to the terrace. Ali and Chris stayed in the honeymoon suite (Dorothea?) which was amazing with four poster bed and sunken bath, quite how Gilly came to the conclusion that we shouldn’t have this room was a bit puzzling at first, but the Savvas was very bright with breathtaking views. Our mattress was rock hard and I thought that this would be a nightmare with my back, oddly I didn’t struggle at all with sleeping and my back had been fine.
Weather was almost perfect, day time temperature was very warm but not too hot, but it did cool down a bit in the evening.
Agios Thomas is worth the walk, a small sandy beach and a taverna.

Add a car rental – car was okay, Nissan Note but I had to pay more for an additional driver, even though I thought already paid it. Also €900 deposit, not particularly friendly and not as good as the company Ben and Brendan had hired from.
