Today was the day after months of organising that Tom, Tuva, Jordan and Billie were leaving Malta for a new start in Cardiff.
Tom Simmons had offered Tom an exciting new venture and after a few years in Malta it was time for a fresh start. Between Tom & Tuva they had found somewhere to live and had purchased a car which was delivered to our house a few days before.
The only fly in the ointment was getting the dogs into the UK and this meant us driving to Calais to pick them up.
It was an early start and it quickly turned into a long day with an accident occuring the night before on the m26, which meant the traffic was a nightmare with a diversion using the m25/m20 near Dartford down to Folkestone. There was also another diversion on the m20 and we had to use the A20 which was actually quite pleasant. Arriving at Folkestone about an hour late we were put on the next available shuttle.
Once in Calais we had some time to kill so we drove towards Dunkirk and stopped at Battery Oldenburg one of the WW2 bunkers, this was a nice walk especially as the sun was shining. From here we drove to Gravelines which looked quite an interesting place, however Tom & Tuva were getting close to Calais so we set off for the Frethun train station.
Needless to say they had a lot of cases and the BMW was full! Bit of a wait for the shuttle so we had a quick Burger King before heading on our way.
The return leg was very busy traffic wise and at one point on the m26 we had to slow right done as there was car on fire, which promptly exploded as we were opposite it, which made me jump!
Arrived home around 6:30pm were we unloaded, Phil popped over and we had a Chinese.
Tom & Tuva set off the following day for Cardiff in their new VW Tiguan. As you can tell from the last pic, it was a long and tiring day!
