Cycle trip with Drew, Darryl, John and Rob – 2 vans and 1 tent.

Day 1 Saturday 19th June

Left Petersfield at 7:00, campsite near Keswick by 1pm, unbelievably right and sunny.

Set tent up and then went for a 30 mile ride around Bassenthwaite and Derwent Water lakes, stunning views.

Chilly night, woke up 04:30 cold!

Day 2

Another glorious day, plan was to do a 70 mile ride including 3 passes including hardknot and honister. Drew’s gear cable snapped so ended up cutting the ride short, went over Honister which was unbelievably steep, I had to walk as I literally ran out of gears.

Stopped at Buttermere for snack.

Evening meal at the Pheasant Inn which was very nice.

Day 3

Drizzle to start but not too bad.

2 passes – Kirkstone and Wrynose, coffee at Grassmere

Felt more like a cyclist today, very nice coming back along Lake Thirlmere.

Curry followed by cards

Day 4 Tuesday

Awful nights sleep, but a bright sunny day.

Packed up and drove to Glenridding, did the Helvellyn walk, 950m high. Took 4:45.

Very scenic, tough and scary, striding edge in particular which was very narrow and high up. In fact it was left just to myself, Rob and John to complete striding edge.

Brilliant few days away, great bunch of guys, cycling very tough and grippy roads, amazing scenery.
