18th to 21st October 2024

To celebrate Gilly’s birthday we hired a lodge in the Brecon Beacons, it was one of the Forest Holidays Lodges located in Garwnant in the Brecon Beacons.

Friday 18th October

Left home around 08:15 with the car fully loaded with dogs, bike and food. Foggy morning and went cross country stopping in Devizes for a coffee and a wander. Headed for Cardiff, hoped to catch up with Tom but he was busy so went for a walk with the dogs, dropped these off and straight to Zara! The lodge was approximately 30 minutes from Cardiff and we checked-in just after 4pm.

Lovely lodge, with log burner and hot tub, both were tested out very quickly after unloading the car!

Saturday 19th October

Bright start to the day and we went for a walk with the dogs from the Lodge. Tuva was keen to come to the lodge early as Tom wasn’t able to get away until late evening. Turned out that road works were in place and the diversions now made this a 1 hour journey, we planned to go to ‘Thomas’ for coffee, not sure why but the traffic was very busy and my short-cut turned into a long-cut!

Had coffee, then back into more traffic as we headed to pick Tuva up, stopped to see their potential new house which looked very nice.

Eventually arrived back at the Lodge and went for a walk with all the dogs.

Tom arrived just before midnight.

Sunday 20th October

Storm Ashley arrived during the night and it was very windy and wet in the morning. Gilly opened her cards and presents.

The weather cleared late morning and myself & Tom headed out on our gravel bikes, bit of gravel and then tarmac up to the Storey Arms, which is a popular location for hikers walking up to Pen Y Fan. Cycling back was super fast even into the strong wind. Nice ride and Tom was super strong.

For lunch we headed to the Three Horseshoes on the outskirts of Brecon, we had a superb beef roast dinner, first class!

Back to the lodge for Uno, wine, unicorn cake, hot tub and logs on the burner!

Monday 21st October

Had to check out by 10am, went for a riverside walk in the Forest and then headed for home.

Lovely weekend, the lodge was well worth the money, superb!
