30th May 2024
This was a 3 night cruise with Cunard on the Queen Mary II from Southampton to Le Havre & Zeebrugge to celebrate Ali’s 60th birthday.
Party list: Me, Gilly, Ali, Chris, Jodie, Ben, Brendan, Clare, Derek, Margaret, Peter, Mike and Della.
A few days before we had an email saying that due to weather and strikes that we would now be visiting Cherbourg and the Isle of Portland! Which didn’t have the same appeal as Rouen and Brugge.
Before the cruise we met up for a light lunch at the Harbour Hotel in Ocean Village.
Boarded the ship at around 3pm.
Met up for dinner and then disco until 1am which was now 2am!!
Friday 31st May
Arrived at Cherbourg, went down for breakfast which turned out to be a fiasco and waited for about an 1.5 hours for breakfast.
Walked into Cherbourg which was okay, stopped for coffee and had a wander. Derek was very wobbly.
Gala evening so out came the dinner suit.
We were on 2 tables so ended up 1 half went to a comedy show and the other to ballroom dancing, we were in the latter group which was very dull. Turned in about 11!
Saturday 1st June
Arrived at Zee Isle of Portland, buffet breakfast this time which was okay. Then walk into Weymouth, this was the old part which was actually really nice with a festival going on which included lots of different morris dancers. Had a wander plus coffee.
Back to the ship for afternoon tea and small tennis.
Finally for dinner we had a large table, on to a show and then a final disco till 1am!
Sunday 2nd June
No dramas getting off the ship, went home, unpacked and back down to Ali’s for a barbecue.
